Do you have a go-to healthy granola recipe? The first time I tried making my own, I was surprised at both how easy and delicious it was! It has that perfect crunch you’d expect from granola, and just enough sweetness to make it feel like a bit of a treat.
I found this recipe a few years back on @dula_nd’s Instagram page, as I was mindlessly scrolling one day. She’s a Naturopathic Doctor from Toronto, Ontario, a mom of two, a natural birth expert, and she shares tons of simple, yet nutritious meal ideas for both kiddos and adults. I noticed this great photo she had of a big batch of granola, and the recipe was typed out in her caption. I made sure I took a screenshot and saved it for later, and am I ever glad I did. I’ve made this recipe countless times, and it’s become a total staple in our house. One of the reasons I like this recipe so much is that you can totally play around with different ingredients to make it just the way you like it. Greg loves it with a little extra cinnamon, and if you know me, you know I’m adding a little extra maple syrup 😉
Being the total sugar lover I am, this granola is the perfect way to add just a bit of sweetness to my breakfast in the morning, it’s great as an afternoon snack, and it’s even proven to be a fairly good way of avoiding an after-dinner-ice-cream-run when I need to satisfy a sweet tooth. It’s an all-around pretty great recipe to have around if you ask me. One final reason I’m so in love with this recipe is that I know exactly what’s in it. There are countless brands you can buy at the grocery store, or even at the health food stores, but they tend to be packed with tons of refined sugar. Again, this recipe is sweetened with maple syrup and I swear the cinnamon makes it taste a bit sweeter too. The combo of maple and cinnamon is just heaven!
I’ve kept the recipe below pretty basic, but these are some other things you could add to if you wanted to change it up:
- chia seeds
- sunflower seeds
- hemp seeds
After baking:
- dried fruit (cranberries, raisins, apricots, currants etc.)
- banana chips
- coconut flakes
- chocolate chips

Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
Combine all ingredients in a large bowl and mix really well.
Spread mixture evenly onto parchment lined baking sheet, and bake for 15 minutes.

Store in an airtight container.
